A Broadway Romance

True love, crushes, bitter breakups and eternal amour are all fair game in this warm and witty concert that traces the path of romance through unforgettable Broadway classics.

Created by Ted Sperling, the Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning music director/conductor, it's a story of two people and the ups and downs of romance.

Joining him for the weekend, away from her star turn in Bandstand on Broadway is two-time Tony Award-nominee Laura Osnes, who Chicago audiences will remember as Julie Jordan in Lyric Opera's moving production of Carousel in 2015, along with Santino Fontana (the voice of Hans in Disney's Frozen).

"Laura and Santino are a joy to work with," said Sperling. "Having played Cinderella and her prince on Broadway for a year, they've developed a very easy and natural rapport with each other. And, we've added the Frozen and Cinderella songs specifically for them."

You'll also hear songs from Carousel, Follies, Oklahoma and more. "I'm a big fan of the newest song on the program, 'First Date, Last Night' from the off-Broadway hit, Dogfight. I love the freshness of the sound, and the way these two people are negotiating a second date after a disastrous first one," he added.

The Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus help tell the lovers' story, capturing audiences' hearts with music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein and Lerner and Loewe.

No stranger to conducting outdoors, Sperling makes his Festival debut with A Broadway Romance. He's excited to be back in town for a weekend of Broadway's most romantic songs, played against the backdrop of the city's magnificent skyline with a world-class orchestra and chorus, along with two of his favorite performers—Cinderella and her prince!
