A picnicker at the annual Independence Day Salute

Independence Day Salute

The place to be on the Fourth of July—this beloved Chicago tradition celebrates American independence with a medley of popular and patriotic favorites. Christopher Bell and the Grant Park Orchestra bring out the red, white, and blue with “Yankee Doodle,” “America the Beautiful,” a salute to men and women in uniform, and Sousa’s The Liberty Bell (a.k.a. the Monty Python theme).  A rousing lead-up to fireworks along the lake front, the Orchestra’s grand finale features thundering cannons in the 1812 Overture, and the iconic Sousa march Stars and Stripes Forever.
